Complete your Erratics book set with Peter Thomson's new collection of character sketches of club stalwarts past and present. It'll only cost you 5 quid and all proceeds go to the club. If you would like one let Peter know your postal address: peterandritathomason@tiscali.co.uk
If you needed any more persuasion, here is a ringing endorsement from the one and only Brian Carpenter:
'I returned this afternoon from a very enjoyable few
days at the Cheltenham Cricket Festival and, as Joe Root continued to
pile on the runs, slumped on the sofa with my copy of Peter Thomson’s
wonderful compilation of profiles of past and present Erratics.
It’s a lovely book, beautifully designed and
produced (in club colours). Peter’s thoughts are typically kindly,
erudite and witty, and cover 85 Erratics, some of whom will be
personally familiar to all of us.
Apart from anything else, it’s an opportunity to
find out which Erratic was coached by ‘a submariner who was frightened
of frogs’, which one taught at a school ‘subsequently closed for
hygienic reasons’, and of which one it is said that ‘after twenty
minutes in his company, you can lose your hold on reality’.
For me it was a nice reminder of an enjoyable period in my life and some great people.
All the best,
Brian'
