Dear Erratics,
What a sad few weeks for the Erratics. Following the recent deaths of Peter Thomson and Geoff Fox, David Salter died peacefully in his sleep last Tuesday. He was 83 and had been in a care home for a few years. David played for us in 40 seasons from 1962 to 2008 racking up a remarkable 642 appearances. He was known as a dogged defensive batter sometimes opening. Once at Bickleigh he opened and was last out in the 50th over for 11 - all singles! Peter Thomson said of David ‘there was something oddly exhilarating about watching him defy opposing bowlers. The body was fragile, but the spirit was mighty’. RIP David. His funeral will be at 1.30pm on Thursday 16 July at Exeter Crematorium to be followed by a wake at the Tally Ho - the Erratics favoured pub in the Gras Lawn days. It will be decked in Erratics colours. Let me know if you plan to go so I can advise the family on numbers: martinjohnweiler@gmail.com
Best wishes
