Destination:  Cloakham Lawn Sports Centre
Chard Road, Axminster, EX13 5HW.
Directions:
From Exeter, take the A30 to Honiton and then A35 towards Axminster.  Take the A358 turnoff to Axminster.  Go through the town, keeping on the A358.  Sports Centre is on the left (I think) as you leave the town, by the turning to Cloakham.  If you get to Weycroft, you've gone too far!  Seasoned travellers will recognise this as basically the same route we take for All Saints/Smallridge.

Take the second right turn along this road about two-three hundred yards along it.  This is signed to Belstone. About 3/4 of a mile down this road you should see the ground on the left, just before you enter the village.

Normally an artificial pitch - no spikes !!

Cheriton Fitzpaine

40 minutes

Rumours abound that there are the souls of lost Erratics haunting the area while still looking for this ground. It is essential to take a reasonably accurate map and leave enough time for the very real possibility of getting lost. The below map link shows more or less exactly where the ground is; please look at it.

If you are coming via Crediton, take the A3072 Tiverton road. Don't take the first left turn to Cheriton Fitzpaine (signed) but continue a further two to three miles (feels a long way) to the left turn which is also signed to Cheriton Fitzpaine. If you pass the sign to Cadbury Castle (on the right) you've gone too far.  Go along the small road and take the left fork when you get to it. Then take the right fork when you reach it (signed to Hayne). Keep going along the road and after about 1/2 mile (again feels a long way along small, up-and-down country road) on the right you should see over the hedges cars parked in the field where the ground is. Entrance to the field is through a gate that may well be kept shut to keep the cows in. Make sure you close the gate as you enter.

THERE IS ANOTHER WAY...  Cheriton Fitzpaine CC have their own website, with an excellent "how to find us" page, complete with two really helpful local maps.  Your best bet might be to have a look there!

Chulmleigh

40 minutes

Go through Crediton and take the A377 Barnstable road. About 2 miles after Eggesford, take the B3096 right turn to Chulmleigh. Go into the village and past the church. As you go past the church, try to keep on that heading through the village. You drive along a narrow road with a high wall along the side. The ground is on the south east side of the town in an are called 'Cricketfield Close'. See map - it's easy to get lost. Lovely setting.

Civil Service Club, Exwick.

Coming from Exeter:   Head for St David's Station, but go straight on at the roundabout at the bottom of St. Davids hill, past the Great Western Hotel, then turn left to go over the level crossing.  Follow this road over the river and then turn left at the T-junction at the end.  Follow this road until you see the Thatched House pub on your left, turn left just after this (it'll probably be signed for Tennis Lessons) and the Civil Service club is on the right.

Coming from Exe Bridges:  Take the "Exwick" exit off Exe Bridges and head up Okehampton street until you reach the junction with Exwick Road.  Turn right onto Exwick Road and continue on until you see the Thatched House pub and turn right just before it.

Coaver Club

10 minutes

The Coaver Club is the sports and social club for Devon County Council staff and is located on the County Hall campus on the corner of Topsham Road and Matford Lane.   After the county ground, it must be the easiest to get to - probably walkable for those Erratics who live in St Leonards.

The ground is on the left after a few hundred metres through a gate and should be marked (it can be hard to spot). It's opposite a small lay-by. If you find yourself at Steps Bridge or at the small red Methodist chapel where the old ground used to be, you've gone too far.

Harberton Cricket Club    DO NOT CONFUSE with Halberton!!

Take the A38 and the A384 past Dartington to get to Totnes.  Shortly after reaching Totnes, take the A381 right turn towards Dartmouth etc.  From this road, you will take a right to Harberton.  The turn is signposted, and comes shortly after a "No Entry" which is also on the right.  This road is very narrow; do not fear.  A left fork (as I recall) takes you into the tiny village of Harberton.  Bear left and continue through the village.  As you climb out the other side, you will reach a large white house on the right and a turn into a track on the left with a sign "Harberton C.C. 450 yards".  Take this track and persist, even if 450 yards feels like a country mile or two.  You really can't miss the ground at the end of it.

Ide

At the top of Ide and just past the Poachers Inn, turn right at the mini roundabout. Continue along Station Road until at the bottom of the slope (and as it becomes 'Halscombe Lane) you come to a lay-by just before a Y junction.  Please park in this lay-by. The entrance to the pitch is about 150m further on from the lay-by along 'Westown' Road (the right hand fork) and is over a concrete slab bridge on the right hand side.

Follow the road for about 1/2 mile, go over the first crossroads and the ground is almost immediately on your right.

It's easy to miss the right turn at the JET petrol station. If you find yourself in Ipplepen centre, you've gone too far.

Down the A38 to the Kennford (and Kenn) turnoff, past Partridges cycles and round the bottom of the village. You will see a big pub/hotel in front of you. Turn left at the pub signed to Kenn. Lynton and Lynmouth

(Valley of the Rocks)

90 minutes

This is the furthest ground we play on but the most spectacular. Fantastic day out for the family and some smashing walks. Leave plenty of time and bear in mind the holiday traffic.

The quickest way is probably to take the M5 out of Exeter and take the A361 Tiverton turnoff (Junction 27). Go along the A361 until you pass South Molton and then take the A399 northward (signed to Lynton). The A399 joins the A39 (from Barnstaple) so go along the A39 into Lynton. Once you enter Lynton, follow the tourist route signs to the Valley of the Rocks. As you come out of the town into the valley you'll see the cricket field on your right.

Mount Edgcumbe

120 mins?  Travel time can vary due to Torpoint Ferry and the Plymouth Mega-ride.  If you're lucky, you can do it in 90 mins.

We can't say for sure what the best route is.  It's on the Rame peninusula, just west of Plymouth.  Will you take the Torpoint ferry, which is the shortest route or drive the long way round?  Either way, please allow plenty of time!

Thanks to Chris Ferro for the following:

Map and directions in Plymouth to Torpoint Ferry

and this Google map which gives a splendid overview as well as good directions if you choose the Torpoint route (which most people seem to do...)

Directions from the opposition consist of:  "When you reach a sign pointing to the house and gardens, follow it."   Park Map.

Newton Poppleford

Newton St Cyres

15 minutes

Take the road to Crediton out of Exeter, the A377.  Follow it through until you get to Newton St Cyres.  The hill goes up and down in quite a steep dip as you drive through and as you go up through the dip there is a sign to the right marked The Beer
Engine.  Turn right here. Follow the road until you see the Beer Engine on the left.   The ground is on the right, before you cross the railway.

Plymtree

40 minutes

NB - Once you get to Plymtree the ground is easy to find. Getting to Plymtree can be more difficult. Good idea to take a map !

I suggest* taking the B3181 out of Exeter towards Broadclyst. About four miles out of Broadclyst TURN RIGHT at Hele Cross (Fagin's Antiques on the left). This is signed to Langford and Plymtree. The road runs more or less straight for several miles. Don't take the turn to Langford village but keep on going a bit and turn left at the junction. Then almost immediately, take the RIGHT TURN at Langford Cross. This should be signed to Plymtree (although sign seems to be frequently knocked over by careless motorists). A long winding road takes you into the village. Take the right hand road at the village, go through the village and the ground is about 300 yards on the left.

* Several other ways are possible.

Shobrooke

Sidbury
40 minutes

Take the Sidmouth road out of Exeter, the A3052. After almost 20 miles, you get to Sidford. There, next to The Rising Sun, is a left turn, the A375, signposted to Honiton (eight miles) and Sidbury (one and a half miles).

A mile or so along the A375 you get to the edge of Sidbury. Head straight on up Chapel Street and into the 20-mph zone. The road narrows as you pass the chapel on the left. Follow the road on round to the right (still signed to Honiton) down the hill towards the church. Before you get to the church, take the first right, a sharp turn next to a cottage called The Old Bakery, into Bridge Street. Cross the first bridge, which is a narrow hump-backed thing, but not the second. Oh no. Drive through the gate (signed as a footpath to Sidbury Mill) and along a track to the ground.

Sticklepath

35 minutes

NB  Mark Phillips says this ground is about as hard to find as Cheriton Fitzpaine.  He set off for Tale Millers in August 2011, apparently in the company of Richard West, who has not been seen since...
