The final match of the tour saw us return to Longney to play the Longhorns. Some of the opposition were familiar from our victory the day before and they seemed keen to make sure they weren’t on the losing side again!

Captain Richard Hitchcock opened the batting with Matt Cook and made a solid start against some decent bowling. Matt made 23 before falling and Richard played a captain’s knock with a watchful 15. The highlight of our innings for me came with our newly discovered number three, Oliver Kirby. While maybe not in the classical mould of a D.I.Gower he nevertheless plundered an impressive 27 off some good bowling. He might perhaps in future stop telling bowlers how bad at cricket he is though just after he has carted them over midwicket for another four although it was quite amusing to see their reaction!

Oliver was joined at the wicket by Sam Cook and for a while it looked like we would post another match winning total. Sam played another top class innings but fell when he had reached 44 ( a failure by his standards!) we eventually managed to post a total of 192 thanks to some steady stuff from Ian Lisk and some mad six hitting from high flying Derek Perry!

After an excellent tea the Longhorns went out to bat with the weather becoming colder and windier by the second. To be honest we didn’t ever look like bowling them out and an undefeated 71 from S Berry (no, not ours!) as well as 49 from M.Morse and a good contribution again from E.X.Tras meant that they crossed the finish line quite easily in the end. Useful Erratic bowling was in evidence though, Ian Lisk was the pick of the bunch, ably supported by Matt Cook and Edmund Thomas.

Drinks and food were generously provided by Andy at the Anchor before we did our presentations and set off home. Another most enjoyable tour and let’s hope we can all meet up again in Gloucestershire in 2008!
