Match report
The last game of the season, doesn't it go quick.

A last chance to stretch the legs at Teign Valley, and achieve any preseason goals that had been set.

The Erratics were put in to bat - some kind of a friendly agreement was overheard, resulting in pads being scrambled to make up for a late start. Lindsay and F Chave started us off, but neither lasted long, both forcing the ball in the air within the first two overs - Richard gently prodding and suffering from a strange bounce up to a close fielder, and Fraser going for one of his usually successful pulls down leg - again snaffled to Sunset joy.

Crawford and Cammack had a mini partnership to steady the ship, but once Crawford was bowled, a classic Errati-collapse ensued, with Cammack, Wright, Tiwari and Weiler shortly following.

Thankfully Grant and Everett were here to save the day. Two different batting styles, but equally effective, Harry playing along the floor, apologising for everything and scampering singles, Lee swatting the ball to all parts, clearing the hedge for sixes and one-legged flicks and drives.

Spectators described shot types from the stands, cricketing language allowing so many verbs to replace "hitting", second only to the number of words for being drunk.
Tonked, biffed, bludgeoned, steered, jabbed, cracked, tickled, slapped, clobbered and glided, all providing an insight into how the partnership was going.

During his innings, Lee managed to accumulate three sixes, taking him above Anuj's tally for the season and into the top 5 most sixes for a season, the only non-Cook in this coveted list.

Ultimately, following a final flurry from D Chave, the Erratics total stood at 182, constructed in almost 3 perfectly equal contributions from Lee, Harry, and Everyone else.

Then an interval of 2 months for your author to come back to his half written script.

I can't really remember much of the second half, but reflecting on the scorecard it's not surprising that Oscar ripped through the opening batters, Lee was miserly by conceding less than a run an over, and Mark Hailwood chipped in with a couple of wickets bowling himself to the kids (probably) at the end.

Also remembered is Fraser and Anuj taking a catch a piece to claim the catching competition joint winners, and also Martin Weiler taking his 99th wicket - capping his bowlingest ever year according to the records, in terms of overs (since records began).

The final memory is sitting in the dark with a beer, at the Teign House inn. Reflecting on a game well played, and a season well run. Only 131 days until the 2024 opening game!

Matt Crawford.
