Match report Despite the return of the hot, sunny, summer weather that was a welcome change from the tropical downpours the tourists experienced on their way back to the bunkhouse from Morebath, Matt C commented en route that there had been weather warnings of rain for our evening trip to Cheriton Fitzpaine. “More likely to be raining sixes” was the tongue-in-cheek response.

It turned out to be an expensive day in general, as the Erratics nursed both some aches in their first outing since the ND tour, as well as the withdrawals from the Mad Dogs and Limericks (good band name?).
The match was expensive for Cheriton’s cricket-ball fund, as a number of balls were lost to the hedgerows as boundaries were dispatched from both sides, including a mighty 6 from Tim Fawcett to reach a retirement score of 34*, his top score for the Erratics.

Lee Grant hit a top edge high in the air, which expensively for Cheriton fell safely in a gap in the field, as Lee really did make it rain sizes, hitting three consecutive maximums through mid-wicket in the following over.

George Mather unfortunately dropped a catch from the bowling of Paul Carr, which turned out to be expensive for George as Paul returned the favour soon after – a missed (but admittedly difficult) opportunity, which was expensive for Paul because it resulted in a smash to the knee from the airborne shot.

Mark Phillips bowled an expensive first over, before adjusting his line and length to be rewarded with a wicket from a boundary catch at square-leg from Matt C, who just about kept his balance with a wave of the arms to avoid stepping over the rope.

A comfortable Erratics win was finished off with curry and chips at The Ring o’ Bells, dare I say it was tad bit expensive?... right… I’ve exhausted that tenuous link!
