Tale Millers v Erratics Cricket Club Erratics on Wed 25 Jun 2025 at 6.00pm
Erratics Cricket Club Won by 33 Runs
Match report
Erratics (& Friends) arrived at Tuck Mill Barns to take on Tale Millers with a record which certainly has room for improvement, having won only once in the previous seven meetings. Could our support from Stokeinteignhead (Viveck and Joseph) and Dartington (Alex) help to change the tide and overcome the mysterious forces that have contributed to our past downfalls?
Our past struggles seem to stem from the challenge of dealing with the unusually weedy wicket that produces both up-and-down and sideways movement off the pitch, something that Tale Millers’ batters are seemingly more accustomed to.
The Erratics were put into bat by their hosts, and Anuj started strongly with some impressive cuts to the boundary to punish the bowling when it strayed from a good line and length. The openers put on 47 before being dismissed in successive balls. Despite cheaply losing some middle order wickets - including an unlucky run out for Alex Perkin, and Perkin Sr. being bamboozled by a slow floater – Krups (continuing his impressive record in Payhembury) and Viveck provided some solidity to help the Erratics reach a competitive score of 136, leaving Erratics wondering whether the curse had been lifted.
As well as our batting historically struggling with the Tuck Mill pitch, Erratics’ bowlers have sometimes not done the most to take advantage of its unevenness, leading to some “encouragement” from the field to “use the pitch!”. When appropriate adjustments were made, they proved very effective. Wickets were shared amongst the bowlers - with Krups reliably taking three catches behind the stumps, who in combination with Viveck dismissed the dangerous Ben Peters. Fraser, who impressively finished with 2-2, will certainly have been relieved to see him return to the shed after the twisted events of 2023. After Peters’ dismissal, wickets fell at regular intervals and the runs dried up, giving the Erratics victory by an unexpectedly large margin.
Rejoice, the mysterious forces have been defeated and the curse lifted!.......... for now
