Lynton & Lynmouth v Erratics Cricket Club Erratics on Sun 09 Sep 2007 at 2.00pm
Erratics Cricket Club Won by 70 runs

Match report by John Curtis

Class will out. It may take time - but out it will. So it was that, after your reporter understands some 23 years, this was a high class, undefeated, maiden test century for Sid Thomson studded with some really gorgeous late cuts and whippy leg-side shots.

In an imposing 297-4 posted by the Erratics the other major contribution was a driving 96 by Matt Cook which simply over-powered the Lynton attack.

Perhaps the quality of the Erratics batting acted to constrain the opposition's ambition or perhaps they found the sheer novelty of line employed by the bowlers, (38 wides), a touch disorientating.

For whatever reason, and despite a disturbingly correct contribution from an over-talented 12-year-old at no.3, Lynton never really convinced that they regarded the required total as attainable and the Erratics ran out relatively comfortable, (if fully wind-chilled) victors.

There only remains then that abiding local mystery, which has troubled numberless (to mention but one of several possible lesses) cricketers over the years:

How did this ground get that weird name?
