Match report

A beautiful day at a beautiful ground. Teign Valley was at its best - buttercups beyond the boundary and buzzards overhead. The still silence of summer broken only by the odd appeal and endless plaintive cries of "Irving - where's your stick?".

Denbury bat first on a slow challenging pitch. They are strangled by 11 classic miserly overs from Berry who takes 2-21. Only Colclough - an Erratic on permanent loan - grinds out an innings of substance; 42 in 106 minutes. Denbury all out for 141 with other wickets for David Pearson (4-9), Abhay (2) and one each for Molins and Orpen.

For once it is Erratic catching which stands out - seven, mostly difficult, are held with David Pearson (2), Sid Thomson(2), Orpen, Kirby and Weiler all showing how it can be done.

In response Erratics flatter to deceive as they slump from 65-1 to 132-8 to draw a game well within their grasp. Molins (24), David Pearson (22), Sid Thomson, Kirby, Orpen and Weiler all reach double figures but fail to kick on. Erratic legend Bill Hanson (299 games between 1965 and 1985) looks on wistfully - he has seen it all before.
Footnote: As a 'learning team' we all now know we must:
- put the kettle on earlier (sorry Denbury!)
- help clear up after the game (sorry Linda!)
