Match report by Andrew McRae (report submitted 54 weeks after the match...)

The most important thing I remember about this match, a year afterwards, is the catching. We caught just about everything. It was stunning. We took them in the slips, in the covers, and Peter Hinds took the catch-of-the-day running backwards behind the bowler’s head. Catches win matches. Maybe we should think about practising this sort of thing.

The second thing I remember is that John Pearson held our innings together, batting (just about?) right through, for something just shy of fifty. It was just what we needed, and John at his best.

The third thing I remember is Sam Cook’s punchy innings (40? 50?), which complemented John’s work, and helped us to a total we could defend.

The fourth thing was a real team effort with the ball. Wickets were shared among a number of bowlers, and the teamwork in the field was outstanding.

The fourth thing I remember is my own utterly inept dismissal. Did I make a run? If so, they should have taken it away from me.

Apart from that I’m struggling, but at least I’m now an honest man, free from the awful guilt of an unwritten match report. Take my advice: do your reports when you can remember the match!
