Match report Matchy Reporty by Marky Hailsy

I was assigned, by a selector with esoteric tendencies, not to write a ‘match report’, or even a ‘macho reporto’, but a ‘matchy reporty’. Not knowing quite what, if anything, that meant, I thought it had a jaunty, limericky air to it. And so…

To Newton St Cyres we came,
To give the Met Office a game.
It was breezy and sunny,
The banter was funny,
And so say this matchy reporty.

At the toss we were put into bat,
But Cap’n Fraser didn’t mind that.
He said if we get one forty,
That will prove sporty,
And so say this matchy reporty.

Rik Lindsay was out for nought-y,
Cutting to point he was caught-y.
But Tiwari did sortie,
With a quick onslaughty,
And so say this matchy reporty.

Then we did wobble a bit,
Before Krupakar started to hit.
And Tim joined the party,
Making sixes his forte,
And so say this matchy reporty.

We finished with roughly one twenty,
And that turned out to be plenty.
Lee was the star,
He swung the ball far,
And so say this matchy reporty.

Hailwood got wickets as well,
A run out by Crawford was swell.
We went home feeling haughty,
And what this has taught me,
Is how to write a matchy reporty.
