Tale Millers v Erratics Cricket Club Erratics on Wed 28 Jun 2023 at 6.00pm
Erratics Cricket Club Lost by 9 Wickets
Match report
Tale Millers is a fixture which has been difficult for most Erratics for several years.
In this match report, I will try to identify why the fault is not ours, and can be attributed to others, or to external circumstances beyond our control.
1.
The most recent, and sole victory against this team was in 2016, when we won by a single run. Other years which have seen a fixture played, have been 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and now, 2023. Therefore, our first excuse can be attributed to attempting to play in an odd year.
These odd years have been so regular in their loss creation, so suspiciously periodic, that it could be, and possibly should be suggested that these instances should be null and void, and that we schedule fixtures against Tale Millers in even years only going forwards.
2.
The last 4 losses, when boundaries were recorded, the number of sixes scored per game has been 4, 3, 2, and 3. Your reporter, with no access to average number of sixes per T20 has declared this to be an "average" number of sixes. No issue therefore can be attributed to Erratics, perhaps if they accidentally did worse, or better, in terms of maximum clattering, the result would be a positive one.
3.
The only year that the Erratics emerged victorious was the only year that we were bowled out, giving away all 10 wickets. All losing years saw us retain at least two batters not out, sometimes as many as 7 or 8 (2015 and 2021). This year we had 6 not out batters. Therefore, it can quickly be observed that the correlation between wickets lost and victory is significant, and almost certainly causation. Consequently, in future Tale Millers matches, we should aim to be bowled out. This fault could either be attributed to the opposition not being good enough to get us all out in order to confirm Erratic's victory, or to Statistics who is usually at fault.
4.
A closer review of the game reveals excellent contributions with the bat, including a retirement from Krups, backed up with further big hitting from BYB, and some last overs impetus from Fraser. Excellent contributions with the ball, including Anuj's tight four overs for just six runs, and Lee's spell also only conceding 1 run (Note: don't check bowling figures). Hence it must be that the fielding was the downfall, however your reporter can't remember any drops (though it was 3 weeks ago). Consequently, it must be that our opposition are at fault for not providing enough catching opportunities.
5.
Fraser got hit for four consecutive sixes (ed.?). This doesn't happen, so must be due to mysterious forces.
Recipe for Future Success and Ongoing Avoidance of Fault Attribution:
-Schedule matches for even years only
-Accidentally hit more or fewer sixes
-Get bowled out
-Persuade opposition to allow catching opportunities.
-Avoid mysterious forces.
A further reason for historic misery could be that the other team can handle their ground very well and we can't, however this possibility is outside of the scope of this report, and should be researched with further investigation. Additional funding would certainly expediate this work.
