Match report Mike Foan wired the following match report from Cheriton Fitzpaine:

We travelled through beautiful Devon scenery as we drove alongside the Teign gurgling down the valley .Over old stone bridges and then we rattled down a long rough track to the ground , a large flat part of a flood plain which stretched on each side of the cricket field past ditches and populated by sheep. On one side of the ground was a hedge and behind it a field leading down to the river , on the other side was a huge bank tiered by many trees, possibly 80 feet high, from which buzzards circled mewing their plaintive cries.

Tea was provided and we were playing a timed game . What more could we want? A Cheriton batting bonanza perhaps?
Our openers batted superbly Grant the more aggressive and Shenan the more sedate. They put on 100 at nearly a run a ball. It was good to watch. Charles batted well, Flash was caught on the boundary , going for a six, Barney hit a number of big boundaries and managed to give a sheep an attack of hysterics , and Will scored an eccentric ,ambidextrous , speedy fifty that managed to confuse the fielders, the umpires and himself. Excellent!

We could have thought that 232 was enough, but the Erratics batted well. Shaun Andy and Flash all got wickets but every time Cheriton seemed to be on top their batsmen managed to wrest away the initiative with a boundary.

Even though they lost only three wickets it was only in the second last over that they hit the winning runs.

A good game , a good drink afterward and a generally very good day.

Co men of match for their excellent fifties: for his generally orthodox innings, Grant and Will for his completely unorthodox , but highly entertaining one.
