Erratics Cricket Club Won by 5 Wickets

Match report Match report by Paul Molins

My first experience of arriving at Clyst Hydon’s ground was what a glorious summer evening and beautiful well-prepared ground in a lovely setting it was and the good weather was most welcome after all the drizzle and rain and wind we have had recently.
So, not only was the weather a historic occasion but, so Fraser tells us, this was the first time we have ever beaten Clyst Hydon on their home ground and the 5th highest Erratics 20 over run chase ever.
Here are the details. Skipper Martin Wright agreed to field first as a few of Clyst Hydon were yet to arrive. Anuj opens the bowling and takes a wicket in his first over. Lee Grant (the most economical of our bowlers) takes a wicket in his second over. They bowl 3 overs apiece and after 6 overs the Erratics have 2 wickets and CH have 36 runs.
Change of bowling at both ends with Fraser replacing Anuj and Matt Crawford replacing Lee. They both bowl 4 overs each and take wickets (Fraser with three and Matt with one). We have now taken 6 wickets but we are leaking runs mainly due to Mr Reshi who retires on 31 not out (he returns later) and Mr Pettitt or Pellitt (scorebook is not clear on that) who also retires on 32 not out.
Krups is now on for Fraser and takes a wicket in his second over. Lee bowls his final over. Martin Weiler bowls only one over and takes a wicket and Anuj finishes his last over. We have taken 8 wickets but conceded 146 runs. Reshi is 46 not out. The Erratics have a daunting task ahead but then the heroics begin.
Richard Lindsay and Lee open the batting. Richard is bowled by their fast opening bowler Sykes in the first over. In comes Fraser and with Lee they put on a stand of 38 before Lee is out caught. Lee ends up with 23 runs which include 5 fours. We are 41 for 2 in the 6th over.
Hugh is in and with Fraser they put on 27 runs before Fraser has to retire on 30 not out. Hugh is joined by Krups and they also add swift runs in a partnership of 21 before Hugh is cruelly run out having hit the only 6 boundary (long off) of our innings. We are 89 for 3 in the 13th. We need 58 off 7 overs.
Matt Crawford joins Krups before he is bowled for 7 runs and Martin Weiler is in but he too is run out for 5. However, Krups is still in and is going well and scoring quickly. We are 120 for 5 in the 17th over and Krups is joined by Anuj.
At the end of the 17th over we are needing 22 off the last three overs and due to some fantastic hitting from Anuj, we do it in two. Over number 18 goes for 17 runs and over number 19 brings the 5 runs needed. Anuj finishes on 19 not out and Krups on 21 not out. A great victory on a beautiful summers day.
