Match report It's a cricketing commonplace that the true state of a wicket isn't really known until both sides have batted on it. So when Erratics reduced Clyst St George to 3-3, excitement was tempered by the knowledge that the home side might yet have to chase on a tricky surface. In the event, however, the Unicorns reached the required 74 with ease, some assured batting capping a dominant performance against the visitors.

Anuj Tiwari and Lee Grant opened the bowling with guile and skill, their movement of the new ball too much for a Clyst side left four down after eight overs. Alas, for the batters, there was little let-up; skipper Martin Wright handing the ball to Paul Carr and Chackochi John, who removed another four batters between them. The Brothers Hewson eventually wheedled out the two remaining wickets, with Clyst setting the Erratics a target of 74.

Any early anxiety about whether a similarly troubled innings lay in store for the Erratics was put to bed by openers Hugh Sheridan and Dhruba Goswami, who blocked and prodded their way through the initial overs with apparent ease. Goswami eventually departed for ten, in a knock which contributed to the feeling that runs were gettable on the surface. Joseph Liyo and Chackochi John shared short stays at the crease (Liyo the victim of not one, but two, lbw decisions – the first rescinded on the grounds that the ball had hit the bat), but some muscular boundaries from Tiwari quickly made the result all but inevitable. A single, muted in comparison to the game's earlier fireworks, got the Erratics across the line, and the unyielding Sheridan carried his bat.
