Erratics Cricket Club Erratics v Dunsford on Sat 21 Sep 2024 at 1.00pm
Erratics Cricket Club Won by 149 Runs

Match report Matt Crawford reporting, from 2025.

After a text confirmation of start time the evening prior, to remove excuses of misalignment of fixture coordination, Dunsford numbered only 2 at the toss. They won, and decided to delay the answer until reinforcements arrived. With a full compliment of Erratics, of course they chose to field.

The Erratics were in the field! Except they weren't. Joining now 6 Dunsford fielders were 2 Erratic batters, 2 Erratic umpires, and 3 Erratic fielders. After much tinkering of the field, now 15 minutes late, Dunsford's captain/keeper realised he didn't have any keeping gloves on.

Outnumbering Dunsford, the Erratics got off to a quick start, they must have been put at ease seeing so many familiar faces nearby. Fraser and Harry managed to find the gaps, until the final few Dunsford players arrived in dribs and drabs.

Worrisome weather forecasts of the weekend felt like a world away, glorious sunshine beamed down.

Fraser was caught behind- amongst the chaos, and Harry hit the roller with a huge 6.

Dunsford's final player arrived just 38 minutes late, with the score at 56-1 from 7. Except he wasn't the final player as there had been a mix up with numbers, and a twelfth player was soon to arrive.

Harry put George Perry to the sword. Four 4s in an over. 73-1 from 8 overs. 93 from 10 overs. As the game progressed, it looked to be setting us up for a formidable evening game score.

The partnership of 100 between Harry and Lee comes up in the 14th over.
Following the speedy start, and next in to bat, Martin declares he is planning to get bogged down, and Mark enquires if running Harry is on his to do list. "The fun stops now" as Lee picks out short midwicket.

Duncan considers retiring Harry after facing 7 dot balls in a row, instead Harry milks it for another 8 overs, before eventually reaching 100, gracing us with 16 fours and the mower six. The Erratics finish on 260, with an honourable mention to Extras, reaching a half century.

Mini rolls all round for tea.

Rolling the wicket during the interval- did this really happen? Dunsford elected to use their home (?) advantage and improve their chances of overcoming the imposing 6.5 runs an over required, by giving the wicket a quick 15 minute roll.

However not much resistance was offered, as wickets fell consistently as Oscar and Anuj begun the damage which Mark continued, finally overcoming his 2-fer curse and collecting 5. The only partnership of note came between Ben Goulden and Jeff Jenner but by this time the game was out of sight. They managed and arithmetically pleasing 111-11, Fraser and Phil also burgling some wickets as the innings petered out.

The Erratics were victorious, every single player either got a wicket, catch, run out or 40+ runs, a great team effort. We took the opportunity to go to the Manor while the light held and before the darkness of the off-season arrived.
