Match report
Anuj Tiwari - When Anuj was out he was heard to say "I can't bat for shit at the moment," those who are regular Anuj watchers may have heard similar pronouncements over the last couple of years. Earlier this season Anuj passed 2,000 runs, he did it in 112 innings, which for comparison is the same amount as it took Nigel Rutherford, but he's certainly done it in fewer balls - Anuj has the 2nd highest strike rate of any batter to have made over 1,000 runs. Anuj does not in fact bat for shit at all - he bats for the fans.
Richard Lindsay - This is the second time in a couple of weeks that Richard has been dismissed on 29 (one run away from retirement). Retirements do confuse averages so it is appreciated that Richard is trying to balance things out. Richard is currently averaging 50.25 this year which is 14 runs more than he's made in any of his innings, he's doing it at a strike rate of 131.37 as well. These sorts of numbers in the IPL would get him dropped, in the Erratics they make him a hero.
Mark Phillips - When I joined him at the crease Mark commented that he doesn't think he's ever been batted with 6 other batters in an innings, which is an extraordinarily difficult thing to check, thank you Mark. We will just have to take his word for it.
John Curtis - John is on 497 career runs, he's been in the 490s since June 2019, at the current rate of one run a year we will be back to celebrate the big 500 in 2028.
Martin Weiler - Martin has scored 6207 runs for the Eratics in 600 innings and 661 matches. 18.8% of those innings have been ducks, this is very special and should be celebrated. There may be some who say that this shows some flaw in Martin's technique but I think this is an over simplification - we must remember that the player who has had the most innings without ever scoring a duck is Rithvik Gutha.
Matt Crawford - Matt is firmly in the top ten Erratics with the most catches now (number 9 with 120 catches), this is very impressive. Matt takes on average half a catch every game (only two people average more catches: Chris Cook - which you have to accept with most Erratic stats, and Siva Subramanian - which should incentivise Matt to take more catches). This was one of those games where Matt took less than half a catch.
Jon Perkin - Jon is on 48 matches, which is exciting. He should be the 109th person to have played 50+ games for the Erratics. In, what I can only assume was a moment of enthusiastic madness, Jon claimed that he must have doubled his career wicket tally in this game. He actually took his 6th and 7th career wickets, meaning that he actually 1.4thed his career wicket tally.
Fraser Chave - This is me. I took my 500th wicket in this game. I'm the slowest to get there in terms of innings, but the fastest to get there in terms of balls bowled. The last time someone else reached 500 wickets was Stephen Fisher in 1997, which was before I was born. It was a caught and bowled which is nice because that is a wicket speciality belonging only to myself (8.1% of wickets) and Peter Colclough (9.2% of wickets).
Lee Grant - When he captains (16 games) Lee has scored 214 runs at an average of 26.75, and taken 14 wickets at an average of 18.21. When he isn't captaining (102 games) he has scored 2,142 runs at an average of 41.19 and taken 131 wickets at an average of 12.06. Is this too small a sample of which to make a comment on the pressures of captaining? Maybe.
Jonathan Kirby - It is very tricky to measure in any way the quality of wicketkeeping. The two metrics I have are byes per innings and wickets per innings. Since 2020 (when I started recording who was keeping wicket every game) Jonathan has gone at 3.74 byes per innings (better than the average of 3.79) and taken 0.55 dismissals (again better than the 0.54 average).
Paul Carr - Of people in the bottom 10 of the bowling averages of all time, 6 of them have played in the majority of the games in the last 10 years. I just wanted to point that stat out, it's unrelated to Paul, Paul is not in the bottom ten, in fact he's no where near. It isn't possible to measure affability or wit numerically, if likeability was an Erratic stat Paul would be doing well.
Anthony Femia - Austrialian, seemingly friendly but wearing very silly trousers, didn't score any runs off good balls.
Daniel Mortimer - Felt like he scored faster than he did, quick at running.
Alex Plumley - Third game of cricket ever, did a very long lap of the boundary when dismissed.
Matthew Davies - Big beard. Plays for Tipton as well, batter who doesn't really bowl for Feniton, bowler who doesn't really bat for Tipton.
Jamie Woodgates - Underestimated as a bowler and batter. Wears glasses. Maybe that's why.
Oliver Walls - A child. Took 3 wickets.
Mark Salter - Definitely was there at least.
Joe Blackmore - Bowled fine, occasionally threw in a rubbish leg break.
Francis Perryman - Took 4 wickets - previously had taken 3 for 83 in 3 matches.
Unnamed wicketkeeper - Not in the scorebook, said 'nice to meet you' when shaking my hand after the match.
