Lynton & Lynmouth v Erratics Cricket Club Erratics on Sat 12 Jul 2008 at Unknown
Erratics Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report And so to the Valley of the Rocks in Lynton, one of the most beautiful cricket grounds anywhere. Although its quite a trek from Exeter to Lynton the place is so stunning that every erratic should play here at least once in their life. Don't let the photos of Martin Weiler put you off either!

Our fortunes here have been up and down. Some games have been massively won by Lynton and in recent times that has been reversed. Although it's great to win a game friendly cricket is a little unsatisfactory when you win or lose by a huge margin. I'm glad to report that this year the match was much tighter and could have gone either way. Lynton were as ever perfect hosts and very amiable.

Lynton batted first and struggled against fine bowling from James Burrows, Chris Ferro and Duncan Chave. Jonathan Davies and John Pearson assisted admirably and although Lynton's middle order rallied a little the final score of 153 seemed that it should be within our reach.

Paul Molins and Sid Thomson opened the batting for us with Sid hoping to repeat the century he scored here last year. Alas, it was not to be and we were soon 2 down. Chris Ferro at number three soon found the pace of the wicket to his liking though and was stroking the ball to all parts of the ground. Martin Weiler accompanied him for a while before being bowled for 15 but Duncan Chave came in and never looked in trouble. Chris ended on 84 not out and Duncan 22.

So another Erratics win was celebrated at the Sandrock hotel just up the road. Food was provided along with good company in a splendid setting. Life doesn't get much better than that.
