Our matches against Clyst St George are always competitive and sometimes combative affairs and this one was no exception. There is a lot of history between the two clubs and of course several of our more gifted players play or have played league cricket over the years for them when not playing friendly cricket for us. Clyst are very much a league side and they are always a challenge to play against.

Clyst batted first on a green Dunsford pitch and soon enjoyed tucking into the Erratics bowling. The opening partnership put on 105 before James bowled Dubisson for 39. The other opener Read compiled 84 and if it hadn’t been for the bowling of Chris Ferro the Clyst score of 201 could have been much higher. Chris took four wickets for 21 in an impressive spell.

After an excellent tea and in beautiful sunshine Al Brunt and Chris Mellett opened the Erratics knock. Wickets soon fell after a steady start and at 63 for 6 it was looking inevitable that we would lose the game. Martin Weiler and Tim Mileham had other ideas though and played great counter attacking innings. Tim’s was a cameo of great brutal hitting, his scoring strokes being 4,6,1,2,6,6! Martin was slightly more sedate and his 39 was invaluable in the Erratics holding out for a draw.

Chris Ferro and Ed Paleit seemed untroubled by the Clyst bowling and coped well with the occasional unpredicatable bounce. Chris was undefeated on 34 and Ed 17. A good result for us in the end.
