Erratics Cricket Club Erratics v Halberton on Sun 31 May 2009 at Unknown
Erratics Cricket Club Won by 103 runs

Match report Only the wispiest of cloud stirrups survived the searing heat, as Halberton - a team of a beginning, an end, but no middle - were cruelly put out to pasture.

Despite the conditions, the opposition took five quick wickets, and only Mileham flourished on an uneven surface. His 32 included several heartily spanked boundaries. The Franks, Grewcock and Dingle were especially destructive with the ball, and typically Ferro was required to dig-in for his half-century.

He was to find unexpected salvation however, in batting partner David Pearson. Pearson built on initial circumspection with a series of trademark punches through cover, and all around. His eager foot movement helped on a tricky wicket. From a last-gasp last ball overthrow, Pearson ticked over to 50 - the first of his fledgling career as a batsman. The crowd stood to applaud.

A deliciously egg-laden tea was had, then the Erratics took heavily to the field. Ellis and Oughton opened well, and wickets fell regularly, but seemingly contentiously. As umpire, our poor president had to make 5 critical decisions (of which I was explained there was no doubting) within no more than 10 overs, the first of which occurred almost before he was in the correct position. On which subject, Mileham's smart wicketkeeping led to two stumpings and two catches, and Orpen claimed 4-37 in a superior spell. He teased and tickled the batsmen into submission, before McRae and Burrows polished them off.

It was then to the pub for Cider shandies, Beer and sausage javelins.
