Erratics Cricket Club Won by 62 runs
Match report
Match Report: Nigel Rutherford
Another damp, chilly, overcast day. As the Erratics team assembled without sight of the Bridford 11, there was some concern that perhaps the game had been called off without our knowing. Anyway, half an hour later under dark clouds the Erratics lost the toss and were put into bat.
Guy off the back of a 90 last week and skipper Chris Ferro opened the batting. They settled in well on a pitch that changed character almost every over with each downpour or sunny spell.
After a good partnership and some cracking forward drives from Chris, Guy, got out for 17, bringing Sid to the crease. Sid continued his excellent batting form, building another partnership with Chris who eventually went for 60, giving Bridford's sharp keeper a stumping.
Talk in the Erratics camp at this stage was of a score of 200+. Paul, however, hoping to carry on from his 67 the previous week, failed to add to the score; the obligatory batting collapse was now on.
Next in, Mark played a couple of nice shots before Sid, momentarily forgetting that it was not Usain Bolt at the other end, called for a quick single, leaving Mark not quite out of the starting blocks when the bails were whipped off.
Armaan in at 7 played some stylish shots until Sid's dismissal after a good innings of 47 brought me to the crease. Not to be outdone by Paul, I too successfully edged my first ball to the keeper.
Phil, James and James all chipped in a few before the innings ended on a round 150.
After tea the skies cleared. Although this may have improved batting conditions, it also made for a much more pleasant couple of hours in the field.
James Burrows, opening, had to deal with very slippery conditions underfoot but was soon into his stride. However, the first wicket went to James Bryant, who got the batsman to edge one to slip. The outfield was definitely quicker, but wickets fell steadily enough to ensure that Bridford never got away from us. James Burrows bowled a beauty to take the second wicket.
The opening bowlers were then replaced by first Phil, who bowled a couple of tidy overs, then Armaan and myself. Armaan, master of the wicket-taking full toss got 3 and I, running in carefully found more control than usual and managed 4 for 1, one of them caught nicely by Mark in the slips.
The last wicket went to Paul who enabled Sid to add to his tally of stumpings this season and had Bridford all out for 90ish.
In a lesser game taking place simultaneously England thrashed the Aussies in the 20-20 final.
