Rackenford (mini-league) v Erratics Cricket Club Erratics on Tue 21 May 2019 at 6.00pm
Erratics Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
Report by Nigel Rutherford...
Both attempts to conclude last year's mini league having been thwarted by the Devonshire weather, it was encouraging to have such a sunny start to this seasons 20_20 competition.
The Erratics were asked to field by Rackenford and ten of us headed out under a warm evening sun. Ben and Mark H. opened the bowling and it soon became apparent that the wicket was as lifeless as the car that had our eleventh player pinned in his driveway. It was a tight opening spell from our seamers and whilst Ben was unlucky not to pick up a wicket of two, at the other end Mark was cleaning up! Regularly deceiving the batsmen with variations in speed, line and length, he had, at the end of his short spell returned figures of 3 for 7. By the end of the opening spell the Erratics were up to full strength with Duncan now out on the field. Rackenford were struggling to find the boundary and with the ball regularly only bouncing a couple of inches batting really looked like a tricky prospect. The second wave of bowlers continued to do a tidy job, although going for a few more runs all managed to pick up one of two wickets. Mark P. in particular was having something of a red letter day in the field; almost creating a run out by throwing down the stumps, then taking a blistering catch at cover and finishing off with a couple of wickets. Krups needed only a couple of deliveries to take the last wicket and Rackenford finished on 86 all out. Perhaps , bearing in mind the mischievous nature of the pitch it was a better score than it appeared.
Duncan and Jonathan got the Erratics off to a fine start , with the former, once again retiring "not out". It was left to myself and Krupakar to try and knock off the remaining forty or so runs. Krups made batting look a whole lot easier than a pitch of this nature should have allowed. Still with three overs to go 20 runs were still needed which seemed some way off. I needn't have been concerned as two balls into the over Krupakar had cut the deficit to ten, from where the Erratics, in the end achieved a fairly comfortable victory.
