Bridford v Erratics Cricket Club Erratics on Sun 04 May 2025 at 2:00pm
Erratics Cricket Club Won by 68 runs

Match report Wahoo! Cricket in the Teign Valley, once again. Not AT Teign Valley but ‘in the’ Teign Valley, for any pedants trapped in semantics out there. Yes, a local derby, not the localist derby but a derby nonetheless – do they have derbies in Derbyshire? - so off to the Northerners, Bridford CC. Last year’s fixture was cancelled due to weather, 2023’s fixture was cancelled, for the same reason and 2022’s fixture was reduced to a 20 over game, yes you guessed it, due to the pouring rain. Today’s weather, fortunately, was sunny, even warm in the sun but distinctly cold out of it, which caused those spectating to play a game of ‘musical chairs around the boundary’ in search of the sun.

Someone won the toss and Erratics were batting. A mention must be made of the ‘staggered’ stumps which added to the challenge. First up were D Chave & M Wright, they played with circumspection against some against some tidy bowling, with only 20 on the board off 10 overs. Martin, trying to force the score, died on his sword, being bowled. Duncan went for 19, incl a big 6. Batsman (sorry but no ladies playing today) 3 & 4 L Grant and Chris Cook respectively, took the attack to the oppo, with a 50+ partnership. Lee departed for a run a ball 37. Anuj(16) survived an early scare, and ably supported Chris Cook (60) who kept the scoreboard ticking. Oscar (17) and M Weiler (9*) bought us home, setting a target of 183, which was probably worth 225 on another day. A notable mention to Mr President who almost lapped young Oscar in running a two and end up ass about face on another occasion.

Tea was taken – although there was no actual tea - with some roasties kindly supplied by the local landlord. There was even a mid-innings award ceremony, with the Presidents Trophy being kindly handed out and a ‘local’ author doing an impromptu book signing.

The Bridford innings didn’t quite go to plan, with the opener hitting a full toss to mid-off first-ball. Anuj, the bowler, ended with figures of 2-6 off 5 overs. Oscar opening the bowling from the other end, too took a wicket in his first over. In fact every bowler took a wicket. Captain, Phil Power (3-16) kept tightening the screw but while Staniforth was in, there was always a danger. He finally departed for a creditable 60, caught on the boundary by an energetic Oliver Kirby. Mr President, wrapped up the win with 2 wickets. Bridford were ao115.

Special thanks to Annie for scoring and Jon Perkin for umpiring in quite a cold wind and to Bridford for Hosting.
