South Brent v Erratics Cricket Club Erratics on Sun 06 Sep 2015 at 1.30pm
Erratics Cricket Club Won by 41 runs

Match report Krupakar reports...

After a weekend of cricket getting washed away at some of the best known locations, the cricket thirsty Erratics were out on a September sunny day to discover yet another lovely cricket ground at the South Brent. The ground could be described as a ‘perfectly dimensioned’ ground and rather big.

After having lost the toss, the Erratics were put to bat on what seemed to be like a partially moist wicket. Krupakar and Mark Phillips opened the batting for the Erratics which saw a good opening stand of 48 runs before Mark was out and not before hitting a glorious straight four on this big ground. Soon Daniel Thistlethwaite joined in who ensured the partnership moved on. Krupakar made a quick 50 and had to retire at this point, an accord made between the two captains before the match. Soon Lucky joined in who in a rather unlucky fashion was given out by the umpire for a caught behind. This was probably what pumped him up in the second part of the match!

Following this everyone chipped in with some useful runs and ensured we batted all through the overs. The retired batsman did get a chance to go back during the first innings, which turns out to be the 39.6th ball of the match (yes the last ball the innings) who ends up at the non-striker’s end after the last batsmen have crossed each other when the ball was hit high in the air. In what appeared like a difficult wicket to bat on, the Erratics managed to pile up 132 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.

Nothing assured, the match could have been anyone’s given the fact that it’s not a big score but also a hard wicket to bat on as well.

Catches win matches!! After the tea, this was the ‘mantra’ we went into the ground with, while trying to warm up with some catches, keeping in mind the low target to be defended.

Ben and lucky started the bowling proceedings with a very consistent and tight bowling giving away nothing easily and getting some early wickets for very few runs. Soon the pressure started shifting towards the opposition but still with many overs still left in the match to get to the small target, the challenge was still on.

Fraser and Chris Cook soon joined the attack with some decent bowling especially Chris with a tight line and length making it hard for the batting department. Truly rewarding was Chris taking two wickets, Ben three and the ultimate pick of the bowlers Lucky getting a 5 wicket haul who made sure to end the proceedings for South Brent.

Going back to the mantra ‘’Catches win matches’’, yes they do and they do when even the difficult catches are taken in style. This is what happened with the skipper himself (JK) taking three stunning catches at important points of the match and ensured a display of an elegant fielding side. Three excellent catches from Jonathan although the best for me was the sharp one-handed catch standing at short-ish mid-off.
