Erratics Cricket Club Won by 72 runs

Match report Day three of the tour dawned with us having won one and lost one. Today's game was the annual match against the pub invitation team the Anchor XI which tends to closely resemble the team known as the Longhorns (see tomorrow's report for that!) Once kit had been dumped in the old railway carriage and warm up exercises had been participated in (no,really!) the Erratics walked out to bat with Sam Cook and David Pearson opening.

Sam finally rediscovered his magisterial best form and proceeded to flay the bowling to all areas. If there had been a confectionery stall he would indeed have hit the ball straight into and out of it. David ably assisited before being caught by a certain Gareth Oughton when he had reached 24. Next came Oliver Kirby with a repeat of last year's innings. Oliver made 21, Matt turner 20 and Jonathan 18 but the innings was dominated by Sam on his way to 143, his highest score for the Erratics and I believe nailbitingly close to a Cook family best for the team.

The Erratics total of 271 seemed enough, even on a small ground like Longney although for a time it seemed the match could be in the balance. With one opener scoring 74 and our own Richard Perham batting at number 4 and scoring an excellent 54 not out the result could have gone either way. Derek Perry and Gareth Oughton also moonlighted for the opposition but thankfully did the right thing and declined to post big scores.

The Anchor were finally bowled out for 199 thanks to excellent bowling from James burrows and Jim Thomson. Thanks must go to Andy for the tea and the Anchor XI for an excellent game.
