Match report [Photos not yet uploaded; Chris Ferro Capt]

James Burrows says "Today's game was a real game of cricket, tough, ever changing and hard fought with some very chivalrous conduct exhibited by both sides. On both sides the degree of commitment by all players was a pleasure to see - Stephen Fisher would have been delighted I'm sure."

Match Report by Simon Orpen

Teign Valley on the late August bank holiday is one of those immovable fixtures for the Erratics and one we all look forward to hugely. The format of the game is an 11 o clock start, twenty overs per side in the morning, down the pub and then the scores are carried forward to a full session after lunch which is in effect a separate game though the scores are added together to establish the winner-who said cricket was difficult?

Teign Valley scored 72 from their 20 overs, their opener Humphries making 35 on a slow pitch. Erratics bowling was tight with Phil Ellis and myself both pickling up two wickets and Burrows one. We replied with a fairly lacklustre 50 for 8, only Duncan Chave really coming to terms with conditions. A score of 35 out of a total of 50 says it all really!

After lunch at The Manor the teams reconvened and the main part of the match got under way. The Erratics batted again and Duncan once more was in fine form scoring 58 and being kept company by Guy Clarke (14) and Chris Ferro (16) Russ Liley bowled as well as ever and his five wickets tore the heart out of the Erratics batting. The middle order came and went but a fine not out 24 from Gareth Oughton helped us to a final score of 150 setting Teign Valley a total of 129 for victory.

The Teign Valley reply was a bit of a stuttering affair and for a while we were hopeful. Treais scored a fine 52 but there was some fine bowling and fielding which really did exert pressure. James Burrows took 2 for 35, Gareth 2 for 25 and I took 2 for 41 including a caught and bowled that was hit back at me like a rocket and just stuck in my right hand-just wish I could catch the easy ones! The umpire remarked that it was the sort of short you either catch cleanly or you end up in A&E with a broken hand!

Despite our best efforts Teign Valley finished on 131 for 6 and retained metaphorical custody of the trophy this match is played for. We all returned to the Manor to round off an excellent day.
