Match report

Nothing is more exciting than inspiring people for any sportsman. And when you hear from the opposition captain that the idea to start their club was inspired by the Erratics Cricket Club (for which he played once while he was studying at the Exeter University) gives any Erratric Goosebumps. This is exactly what happened to me when I heard the Corridor cricket club’s captain talk about how their club came to existence because of Erratics cricket club.
It was a pleasant Saturday afternoon on Buckfastleigh cricket club’s ground where this fixture happened. Complementing the perfect Saturday afternoon weather was an amazing pavilion of this ground. Captain magnificent M. Weiler offered a kind gesture to the friendly visiting team by asking them to bat first if they wanted to, which they readily agreed to. CCC’s opening batsmen started off on a high by going after our new ball pair B. Youngman and C. J-Goodier. However, CJG came back strongly by uprooting the off pole of one of their openers. Soon after, their other opener fell after Chave Jr took a stunning low catch by diving forward at point. Falling of the opening pair started a middle order collapse of sorts ignited by the new spin twins R. Liley and S. Webb who picked up 7 wickets among them. It was disappointing to see R. Liley not getting a well-deserved 5 for after captain Weiler decided to stop the carnage done by R. Liley. ECC was set a paltry target of 128 runs.
ECC’s new opening pair of M. Wright and I. Hooper had no issues seeing off CCC’s new ball pair. As the chase was going smoothly, M. Wright sold I. Hooper down the river by hitting a ball to a fielder and calling for a run. However, M. Wright made up for the wrong call by hitting a brilliant 68. Finally, Captain M. Weiler along with R. Liley saw off the chase comfortably thereby bringing up the 20th win for ECC this season.
Imagine, if ECC could inspire someone to start their own cricket club, in what way can this world cup winning English cricket team inspire its citizens (and residents)? We should all feel proud to be playing for such a great cricket club. All hail Erratics Cricket club.
