For the first of four games in five days, we made another trip down to South Brent on what (captain) Fraser deemed to be the finest day that he had ever seen at this venue. It had been a beautiful day and was still very warm when we started.

The Erratics were full of very confident sounds ahead, Siva was happy to pass off keeping duties to Jon Perkin and lined up in the covers with his friend Val who I believe hadn't played any cricket before. But the opposition drained that confidence extremely quickly with a fast start full of intent. This saw them pass 50 in no time at all.

This brutal exhibition was only interrupted by what was the highlight of the day. The first wicket stand was broken off Ben’s bowling thanks to a superb low catch taken at gully by Martin Wright. Unfortunately, South Brent’s third batsman took up the rein and continued to hit effectively. The approach forced Fraser to adopt damage control but the hard running allowed them to continue scoring at a good rate. They reached 145 comfortably on the back of this admirable approach.

Needless to say, the Erratics were less confident at half-way and it felt like our chances were fading quickly as the warmth faded. The home side were perked up and vocal. Jon Beverley was able to reach thirty but we all found it hard going on a pitch that gave very little in the second innings. Fraser greeted me with a warning that he was going to make me run; it was clear that boundaries were off the table and we ran up a handful before I got on strike, only to get out on two, somehow inside edging a full toss to point.

After a tight start, only conceding ten off five overs, South Brent may have been disappointed to see the score climb in the middle overs, and they conceded seventeen extras overall. But despite this, their target was never in doubt and we ended up short on 91.
