Thanks & Farewell to Gareth Oughton

07 Aug 2017

Saturday's game against the Mystics & Magicians was, sadly, Gareth Oughton's last game for the Erratics (barring appearances on future tours) as he is heading off to Leicester to take up a new job. In his 10 years with the club Gareth played 135 matches, and took 160 wickets at a shade under 15 a piece. His famously frugal economy rate over that time was a shade over 3. He scored over 350 runs, the majority of which came via the aerial route.

Gareth epitomises the very best of Erratics cricket: a good competitive cricketer who plays the game with an unwavering positive and friendly attitude. As Peter Thomson remarked in his Erratic Cricket Prints, 'The Happy Cricketer' would make a good title for a biography of Gareth. He has also been a devoted servant of the club, acting as a selector, captain, and net-booker-in-chief. He will be sorely missed, but we wish him all the very best for his new adventure in the East Midlands, and he was sent on his way with a limited edition Rampant Unicorn mug to remember us by. Thanks Gareth, and good luck!
