As the sun , which had provided a brief taste of summer earlier on in the day , disappeared behind grey clouds , there was a distinct wintry chill in the air as the Erratics took to the field for this 20-20 encounter against Lympstone.
The cold conditions made it difficult for the opening bowlers to find their rhythm and the Lympstone openers took advantage of this , putting on some quick runs. It looked as though a score of 150+ was on the cards, before some tidy bowling from Greg MacQueen and A.N.Other (sorry forgot name) equally fresh faced young bowler helped stem the flow of runs. Also notable was the tireless fielding effort by Danny who appeared to be attached to the ball by a length of invisible elastic and a coolly taken direct hit by skipper Ferro to remove Lympstone and sometime Erratic dangerman Gary Abrahams. The result was that the Erratics needed 131 to win the game.

Openers Mark Phillips and Dan Thistlethwaite had to negotiate some tricky opening bowling before both falling within a few balls of each other. This brought Erratics debutant Alma to the crease. Obviously a batsman of quality , having got used to the pace of the pitch produced a succession of perfectly timed shots to bring up his 30 and enforced retirement . Meanwhile , at the other end wickets had been falling steadily and at one point the Erratics total stood at 60-6. But cometh the hour.... in came Ferro and from the off , thumped the ball to all parts of the ground, reaching his 30 in no time. With 12 runs needed off the last 7 balls , Rutherford swung at the last ball of the penultimate over and not quite middling it, was caught on the mid wicket boundary. Despite a gallant effort from Ed and Simon in the final over , an exciting game came to an end with the Erratics just 6 runs short.
