Erratics Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets

Match report Krupakar reports...

After some close and exciting wins in the last two games, a 10 sided Erratics went on to play the weekend game at Marldon. Although the day looked slightly brighter compared to the previous weekend matches, the slight rain break did not seem to have dried the pitch enough which still looked damp. Having put into bat by the opposition, Erratics were onto a challenge.

The Chaves opened for the Erratics on an early season slow and low pitch. But Duncan and Fraser made it look less difficult with some good adaptation to the conditions and managing to get runs whenever there was an occasion. While Duncan went on with his natural batting flow Fraser decided to stay on the wicket as long as possible with some good determination and not giving away anything.

After few overs, the slow pitch got the better of Duncan hitting low on the pads for an LBW, while Fraser continued his composed batting. Mark Hailwood joined next but unfortunately had to turn back soon after the ball rolled back onto the stumps after hitting the bat.

Krupakar joined Fraser and tried to put some quick runs on board. His batting instincts got the better of him in spite of the local boundary-hitting regulations (no square sixes) as he managed to hit two maximums on either side of the ground only to be counted as dot balls. Just when the Marldon team was talking about re-explaining the field restrictions on this ground, he was gone.

Danny, Gareth and Jeff had to return soon as well which saw Sankar and Ben at the crease both of whom started to build up a partnership. When things were getting fine again, Sankar departed and Ben was joined by Jim.

Ben displayed some good batting, playing as straight as possible and Jim matched it up with some lovely cuts in the cover and the point regions. The exciting last wicket partnership helped us to put 124 runs on the board for Marldon to chase.

After a refreshing tea the day seemed brighter and the pitch drier. With not much score to defend Ben and Gareth started with some tight bowling especially Gareth who looked in a great form picking up two quick wickets. First change Fraser bowled some great spin bowling and took three more. Just when things started getting easier and the Erratics seemed set to pull off another thrilling win, Marldon came back into the game with some determined batting from one of their batsman who went on make good use of the short boundaries.

In spite of some quick wickets and some economic bowling from Mark Hailwood, with not much score on the board it was too little too late and the target was achieved.
