In days gone by the All Saints game was the traditional end of season fixture coming as it does towards the end of September. It now feels almost mid season as our fixtures edge ever nearer to November. Despite real or imagined climate changes the game is always one of our most enjoyable and is played in a great friendly yet competitive spirit. This year the sight of James Burrows arriving in his new convertible with the roof down told us that we should get a good afternoon’s cricket in.

We batted first and opened with Chris Ferro and Andrew McRae. They were fluent and scored 29 and 23 respectively. Al Brunt hit a destructive 30 and Pete Weatherhead contributed 24. Martin Weiler continued his best run of form for years before being run out for 30 and a total of 161 for 7 seemed more than respectable in what was a 35 over game due to a slightly late start (our fault!)

All Saints started off badly with James picking up both openers. Jim Myton joined in the fun and All Saints were soon reeling at 24 for 5. Seward scored an unbeaten 29 but nobody really stayed with him and there were wickets for Weatherhead, Myton, Burrows, Orpen and of course Martin Weiler whose bowling ended the game having Morgan caught behind by Al Brunt-marvellous!

After drinks at the ground we thanked the guys from All Saints and set off for Exeter and beyond-it’s a fair old poke to All Saints but one well worth making!
