Match report Having played the second semi-final and overcome Rackenford in hot sunshine, our adrenalin and sweat were running freely so the tea interval was necessary to regroup before the final.

We batted first again on the adjacent strip to the semi-final and quickly realised the conditions and the bowling were much more challenging for our batsmen. Jonathan for one also was not quite up for it and succumbed to some good bowling. Martin looked promising before holing out and Matt got a good delivery after some clinical pulls had set the spectators humming. However Krups again and Chris showed what classy batsmen they are steadying the ship and then producing some lovely stroke play before each had to retire. We needed something from the tail this time even though we thought 140 might be competitive. And Dominic provided it in spades unleashing some of his trademark hammer blows. Dominic aside the run rate slowed as their top player was brought on to bowl at the death.

Going out to field we knew we had something to bowl at and skipper made use of all 8 bowlers. My notes run out at this point so what I recall will be sketchy and maybe counterfactual. The key in 20/20 is to take wickets and the 6 wickets proved insufficient as their later batsmen proved capable of finding the boundary just when we thought we were in with a sniff.

No one bowled badly and we fielded well as we had all afternoon. Whilst Matt again got wickets and Chris and Krups were economical Yeoford were able to cope well with the low bounce and the ground soon felt a small playing area.

At the end there was a satisfied sense that we had got to the final and come close. The atmosphere was convivial with cool ale and free burgers at the end as the cooks who had toiled for hours in the sun wanted everything to go.

The sun shone throughout and our hosts at Cheriton had done us proud and generously were talking of doing the same again next year. A toast to them and to the spectators who graced our day in the sun.
