Match report FINALS DAY at Cheriton Fitzpaine

Arriving at this beautiful and usually tranquil ground I was struck by the number of vehicles, children, dogs along with the aroma of a barbq wafting over the field. The first semi-final between Yeoford and Cheriton was reaching its finale – it came down to the last 3 balls with Yeoford pulling the victory off with the final wicket. We knew our opponents should we best Rackenford in the 2nd semi.

Mini LEAGUE Semi Final vs Rackenford

Skipper Matt said at the outset we needed a total of 160 on what was a quick outfield. Jonathan and Martin started well finding quick singles and even twos and Martin finding his range with a glorious straight 6. Unfortunately both perished in quick succession followed by your reporter. However Matt and Krups showed us how cricket is a simple game if you are young and talented. Both made the bowling look very ordinary and were retired when they got to 30. Chris disavowing any lofted shots was proceeding smoothly when to everyone’s surprise he was run out. However our run rate was such that 180 looked a possible target. However the lower order misfired with the exception of Mark but we were unable to find a way of getting Matt and Krups back till the last over. Matt was out and Krups managed another boundary leaving us with a defendable total of 154.

As it turned out the opposition started brightly but proved to have a long tail. We were able to call on a bowling attack of 8 – only 7 were needed in this match but they all brought something individual to the square:

* Mark provoked indecision in the batsmen
* Phil’s guile brought crucial wickets
* Krups made inroads with his change of pace
* Jeff was teasing
* Chris brought a tight wicket to wicket focus
* Matt settled it with a perfect googly.

A very satisfying team performance with everyone doing their bit…time for a rest a cuppa and gathering our energies for the next installment…..
