Clyst St George v Erratics Cricket Club Erratics on Sun 09 Jun 2019 at 2pm
Erratics Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report True to its reputation, the English weather has dominated the proceedings at the cricket game between The Erratics and Clyst St George (CSG) on Sunday (09/06/2019). Irrespective of who won the toss, The Erratics were put to bowl first for the second time this season. With overcast conditions for the whole evening, the groundsmen along with Annie Chave did a tremendous job to keep the pitch lively to assist both batsmen and bowlers throughout the game. The opening bowling pair of Erratics exploited the conditions well to their advantage and kept the usually dominating CSG batsmen in check. Nick Walding (3 for 35) was a standout bowler during this period who picked up crucial wickets at regular intervals while Mark Hailwood held on to his impeccable line and lengths and made the batsmen play some false shots but was unlucky to pick up any wickets. In the meantime, due to two rain breaks even before the first innings drinks break, the match was reduced to 30 overs a side. To compensate for the overs lost, CSG batsmen tried to up the ante and lost some quick wickets. However, young E. Cragg played a brilliant innings at the end and took CSG to 166/6 in their allotted 30 overs.

Captain B. Youngman took the things into his own hands in the second innings and opened the innings with the ever dependable D. Chave. However, both the openers were back in the hut by the 3rd over with 11 runs on the scoreboard and still 156 needed to win the match. K. van Schreven, who was playing his first match for Erratics, along with J. Kirby played some very good cricketing shots and stabilized the innings without losing more wickets for the next few overs and laid a solid foundation for C. Ferro to do his usual business of finishing of the chase. C. Ferro, along with the support of tail-enders and a choir consisting of Hailwood-Walding duo, pulled of an incredible chase in the last second ball of the innings which at one point had a 12 rpo required run rate. He was unbeaten on 70 when the match ended. It should be noted that CSG’s R. Cragg, who was playing for the Erratics in this game, made a huge contribution to this win by making a quick-fire 16 with bat and took 1 wicket for 26 with ball.

On a day, when everyone thought the English weather will play a spoilsport, the never-say-die attitude of the Erratics has resulted in an exciting and entertaining cricket game which will be remembered for the next few weeks if not ages. Kudos to CSG for hosting the Erratics for an entertaining Sunday game.
