Erratics Cricket Club Lost by 80 Runs

Match report Our matches against Clyst St George over the years have seen some closely fought battles as well as a couple of award winning 'wobbles' from overenthusiastic Erratics hellbent on victory. I'm glad to report that as ever this was a hotly contested game and that it was played in a fine competitive spirit.

Clyst batted first and their openers set about the bowling. Sam Cook,Chris Ferro and James burrows all bowled well but without luck. A fine century from the Clyst number two which was supported by a couple of 40s meant a formidable total was in the offing. Sam Cook took four wickets for 42 and Phil Ellis collected a couple of scalps but a total of 259 for 8 was always going to be a challenge.

Unfortunately the excellent tea seemed to cause the Erratics batting to falter. Tim Mileham and Al Brunt opened but were soon replaced with Matt Cook who for a while looked like he might play one of his special knocks. Sid Thomson had a rare failure as did Martin Wright. Matt was joined by his brother Sam and the two of them seemed in control until Matt fell for 37. Sam scored 49 and Chris Ferro added a fluent 51.

Normally when we have three decent scores in a side we are there or thereabouts but not this time and when Phil Ellis was the last man out our score had reached only 179. Still, there's always next year...
