Painswick (Tour) v Erratics Cricket Club Erratics on Thu 02 Sep 2010 at 14.00
Erratics Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report Painswick: 122

Erratics: 123 with overs to spare

Match Report: Ed Keedwell

A glorious late summer's day met the first Erratics on tour at the picturesque ground at Painswick in Gloucestershire. Particularly keen was Nathan Kirby who was the very first on tour, an offence for which he was later fined.

The Erratics fielded first and after some lively opening spells from Curtis Burrows and Mule Cook, it became apparent that spin would be the order of the day and skipper, Tish Tophe Ferro turned to the triumverate of tweak, Lip Power, Im Thomson and Neth Horne. All three bowled well, containing the Painswick batsmen and taking regular wickets to keep the scoring in check. They were aided by a good all-round fielding performance, including some excellent saves by Darling Mellett in the deep on the short square boundary. Curtis returned for the final few overs and with the spinners took the remaining wickets. The tight bowling and fielding resulted in a Painswick score of 122 from 35 overs.

Tea was had in the excellent facilities and most (all?) of the Erratics managed to stay out of the bar which must be some sort of tour record, although some (Jim) did admit to having a liquid lunch before they got to the ground.

The Painswick opening bowlers were lively and dismissed openers Nathan and Darling relatively quickly, bringing Tish Tophe to the crease who made an excellent 70 and settled the Erratic nerves with a partnership with Ward Keedwell. Ward then contrived to be bowled off front pad and both feet for 11, bringing Mule to the crease, who appeared to middle everything, with three monstrous sixes and even his attempted singles to third man going for four. After a good partnership, which ended with Tish Tophe being stumped, The Tophe and No Gurney knocked off the remaining runs and the Erratics had won with almost 10 overs to spare.

.

After the game the Erratics basked in the evening sunshine with a drink from the bar before returning to the Anchor to pitch camp and imbibe further. Spare a thought for the mouse that Muel attempted to 'catch' by smashing a pint glass over its head. The RSPCA has been notified.

The tour hats were awarded as follows:

Moment of the Match - Ward Keedwell for "the lofted cover drive that ignited the run chase."

Man of the Match - Lip Power for his three economical wickets
