Match report An excellent afternoon at Tedburn St Mary saw some fine cricket and also some fine spectating!

The Nomads, who come from the Swindon area, brought with them an array of friends and family to give cheerful support and it was a pleasure to see them enjoying the Tedburn sunshine. Most notable among them was Ms. Harrow who kept accurate and cheery score, allowing Annie time away from the book to prepare tea. Ms Harrow’s father opened the batting and the bowling for the Nomads while my son did the same for the Erratics.

The Nomads innings started badly with both openers giving catches before scoring. The Erratics were in no mood to press home the advantage and dropped them both. The innings then proceeded in a more routine way with batsmen getting in, looking set and then getting out.

The highlight for the Erratics was Michael’s display of controlled swing bowling which accounted for three good wickets, all bowled.

Tea was presented outside of the “in the process of redecoration” pavilion and was an against the odds triumph.

The Erratics innings was the story of one man’s (or boy’s, as I still think of him) fight against two very good medium pace bowlers. The Js (Jack and James I think) Jones and Baldwin bowled 23 aggressive, yet friendly, accurate overs between them but couldn’t break Fraser’s resistance. Fraser, smashing the ball through the covers one ball and then ducking it the next, scored 90 not out in what is his finest Erratics innings to date. He was helped over the finishing line, with 4 overs to spare, by a splendidly rapid 26 from Siva.

The game was a perfect example of competitive friendly cricket and we should encourage the Nomads to return next year.
