A glorious early summer evening at Cheriton Fitzpaine saw the Erratics return for their second leg of the mini league , this time against Rackenford. A little too warm to be out in the field our skipper decided to bat , bringing out our very own Brace of Chaves to kick start the innings, which they did in their customary stylishly nonchalant way .

Fraser , having knocked off his allowance was back in the Pavillion in no time followed a little later by a slightly wearier but equally successful Duncan. They were replaced in the middle by our sub continental Pro. , Krupakar (Have a great wedding) , who with swashbuckling elegance also rushed to his 30. Jonathan Kirby , meanwhile , continued were he left off against the Sunsets the previous Friday , comfortably knocking the ball around . With Rackenford yet to take a wicket , Rutherford joined Kirby in the middle for a short time before being run out by a ball that had been hit straight back down the pitch and like a pinball ricocheted off the bowlers ankle , knee , elbow and shoulder before landing on the stumps , leaving the non striker stranded. Danny then ably saw the Erratics through to the close and a fine score of 142.

Gareth opened up proceedings in the field with a pacy and parsimonious three overs getting the pitch to shows signs of life where it had seemed beyond resuscitation. I must also mention a splendid bit of fielding by the aforementioned. Although elegancy may not always be the first word to come to mind when describing Gareth's fielding exploits , it is in this case justified as he swooped , Eagle like , to snare a ball hit hard into the covers only inches from the ground.

Other notable fielding efforts included Krupakar's stumping and run out and Jonathan and Danny's supererogatory efforts only slightly marred by Danny's drop off his own bowling which would have given him a well deserved wicket. Under insistence from the Skipper I must mention a certain Mark Hailwood haring along the long off boundary and selflessly hurling himself infront of a hard hit ball preventing an almost certain boundary !

It was a fine overall Erratic fielding performance. Everyone bowled well and the wickets were shared around. Special mention to Ben's superb , solitary over.
By the close Rackenford were still 39 short giving the Erratics a comprehensive win and keeping them well in the competition.
