Dunsford is a beautiful place to play cricket. Even the rusty car door that someone has propped against one of the trees beside the river added something to the ground's glory in the way of a memento mori on this sun-drenched, autumn day.

I think that skipper Mark Hailwood won the toss and chose to bat. Hailwood, Mark Phillips and Daniel Thistlethwaite were all out by the time the score had reached seven. A soft pitch and some good bowling made batting quite a challenge early on. Martin Wright and Chris Ferro consolidated and then wrested the initiative with a century partnership before both were caught in the last few of our allotted 35 overs. Jonathan Kirby, Penny Price, Phil Power and Fraser Chave chanced their respective arms without luck, but Danny Williamson made a run-a-ball cameo to see us to an above-par 165 for 8 at the interval.

Tea was delicious, especially the crustless egg sandwiches and very chocolatey biscuity things. Yum!

Dunsford started their innings promisingly. Ben Youngman and Fraser Chave bowled their away-swing and off-spin well, but one of the Fulfords was making batting look easy. Soon enough, however, Chave had his man bowled, and Martin Wright picked up a sharp catch at slip off Youngman to check Dunsford's progress. Youngman now has 40 wickets this season. Some lovely variations by Hailwood and Power kept the pressure on, Hailwood collecting three more wickets, and when Ferro ran out Dunsford's big hitter, the game was up. The last few overs were notable for two rare wickets for Mark Phillips and some fine strokes by Simon Dudbridge, but the Erratics ran out comfortable winners by 39 runs.
