Match report Erratics v Cheriton Fitzpaine Thursday 15th June 2017
Inspite of the apparent landslide victory to Cheriton, the Erratics can claim victory on two counts – firstly our turnout was magnificent – at 5.45 all 11 Erratics were present and correct ready for the election/match. And secondly in the early stages of the campaign/innings we were trailing with 14 – 4. Noone gave us a hope in hell of getting over the line but thanks to a blend of youth in the form of Mark Hailwood and seasoned campaigner Jonathan Kirby we achieved an unlikely result – a valuable batting point – that will give us the foundation for the next part of the campaign as this is an election over several rounds.
Some members of the central devon MSM might point to the total of the home team of 151 – 3 as suggesting that this was a comfortable victory for our opponents. But allmembers of the shadow bowling attack came close to taking wickets – the margins are small as any electoral agent/wicket keeper will tell you.
The lessons I take from this positive result that with a team of youth what was needed in 2017 is not the flashy Blairite Hailwood in charge. That is so 1990’s – the mistake was not to have put one of the grey beards in charge – Haynes or Forrester. Cometh the hour cometh the oldies!
